In Standard Mode, delve into a vast tech tree where you can unlock new towers, units, upgrades, wonders, and more using points earned from previous runs. As you progress, new maps and difficulty settings will become available, enhancing the challenge.
Challenge Mode presents a fresh challenge each week. Strategize wisely with limited resources, choose perks, and compete for top scores on the weekly leaderboard.
Control enemy paths with randomly generated hexagonal tiles, obtained by defeating foes. Strategically place tiles to create longer routes, secure better building placements, or block enemy spawns at portals.
Build an arsenal of towers, recruit diverse armies, and cast powerful spells to fend off enemies approaching by land, sea, and air. Create grand Wonders with unique abilities to sway the battle in your favor.
Conquer formidable bosses to unlock blessings, providing boosts to gold earnings, defense strength, spell power, and more. With each day survived, unlock new content like maps, buildings, units, spells, and wonders. Master the game to overcome new challenges and settings.

Hexguardian doesn’t represent a revolution for the tower defence or the rogue-lite genres but its mechanics are polished. The lack of world-building is a little disappointing and the presentation is adequate and not much more. But the title creates that just one more try feeling, based on the wide variety of unlockable tools and upgrades and the many ways in which tile work can affect survival time.

Hexguardian won me over with its simple but addictive gameplay. While the familiar foundations of a tower defence game are all here, the random generation and ability to manipulate the terrain made this a game I was keen to jump back into run after run. I guess if you absolutely despise the tower defence genre, this may not be the case for you. But if you’re looking for a fun game to enjoy in long or short bursts and you don’t mind playing on PC, then this is well worth picking up or at least adding to your wishlist. For me, the game is Hex-Cellent. If you want to try it first, there is a free demo available on Steam.
